The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes on May 2 for the Assam assembly polls by putting in place measures to ensure strict adherence to health protocols, as it is taking place amid a raging second wave of COVID-19, an official said on Saturday.
A three-tier security apparatus has also been arranged at the 331 counting halls across the state that voted in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
Considering the fact that coronavirus infection is raging in the state, steps have been taken to ensure that Covid guidelines are strictly followed during the counting.

Assam Election Results: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears set to retain power in Assam as poll trends show the saffron party taking a decisive lead against rivals Congress, Badruddin Ajmal s AIUDF and others. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked the people of state for keeping faith in the party. The ruling BJP-led NDA is surging ahead of the Grand Alliance spearheaded by the Congress in Assam, leading in 77 of the 119 seats, latest trends available on the Election Commission website said. People have blessed us. We can say for sure that the BJP will form government in Assam. We are coming back to power with our partners AGP and UPPL, Sonowal said. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested 92 seats and its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad on 26 seats. On the other hand, the Congress contested 94 seats, whereas Badruddin Ajmal s AIUDF fielded candidates on 14 seats.

Damoh: The counting of votes for the by-election to the Damoh Assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh is underway with Congress candidate Ajay Tandon having a clear lead over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Rahul Lodhi.
Voting was held on April 17 for the by-election to the Damoh Assembly constituency and counting is underway at Polytechnic College. Congress candidate Ajay Tandon is leading by 1,815 votes.

AAA The district administration completed the arrangements at the counting centre in L.R.G Government Arts College for Women in Tiruppur on Saturday for the counting of votes polled in the eight Assembly constituencies in the district on Sunday.
District Election Officer and Collector K. Vijayakarthikeyan inspected the counting centre on Palladam Road on Saturday. At the counting centre, 14 tables for counting of electronic voting machines (EVM) votes and two tables for counting of postal votes have been allocated for each of the constituency. All these 128 tables will have CCTV cameras to monitor the counting process, according to election officials.
