Normally a day that elicits mild interest from the younger members of my family, it was all change this year and they had talked of nothing else in the run up.

Hello parents, teachers and students! Today is a somber day as we remember the anniversary of the NASA Challenger explosion that occurred back in 1986. Thursday is the 35th anniversary of the tragedy, one that killed all the crew members on board, including Christa McAuliffe, who would have been the first teacher to make it to space. Six astronauts, including San Antonio resident Dick Scobee, also perished in the explosion that happened just 73 seconds after liftoff. NASA honored their lives with a remembrance ceremony that took place Thursday morning. The city of San Antonio continues to deal with high COVID-19 numbers, but luckily more and more teachers are starting to get the vaccine. A question that remains, however, is, when will the vaccine be available to children? Presently, the vaccine is only approved by the Federal Drug Administration for people over the age of 18 but kids as young as 12 are now being vaccinated in trials from both Pfizer and Moderna.
