Typically, a dog will not bite without reason. Triggers include stress, being scared or feeling like they are in danger. Understanding a dog’s body language is a key way to help avoid being bitten.
You really should not be that person that wants to pet every single dog they see when they are out walking. The reason we are saying that is because there are thousands of people that are bitten by dogs every year. From April 11 to the 17th it is considered the National Dog Bite Prevention Week. On the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals website there were some tips for National Dog Bite Prevention Week.
