According to a new exhibit at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the origins of the six-string instrument that shaped rock n roll can be traced back 5,000 years into the ancient world. Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked the World features more than 60 guitars, from examples of the instrument s early ancestors to designs made famous by popular musicians.
Created by the National Guitar Museum in New York, the exhibit aims to immerse visitors in guitar history and culture. “The guitar is the most enduring icon in American history. It has been around longer than baseball, basketball, soft drinks and sports cars. This exhibition is a celebration of all that, and more,” HP Newquist, executive director and founder of the National Guitar Museum, said in a news release.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The Durham Museum opened its latest exhibit last Saturday, and with temperatures barely breaking into the double digits, it was the perfect day to spend indoors exploring the world of the guitar.
The interactive exhibit, “Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked The World,” not only includes more than 70 instruments on display, but also allows visitors to interact with the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) elements behind the guitar.
Sandra Galvan brought her daughters Marliss, 8, and Melody, 2, to see the exhibit.

Dec 22, 2020 6:00 PM The National Guitar Museum has chosen to present the 2020 edition of its annual Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Eddie Van Halen . The honor usually is given to a living musician who has contributed to the legacy of the guitar, but this marks the first time since the award was launched in 2010 that it will be presented posthumously. A message on the National Guitar Museum s Facebook page explains, It is perhaps fitting that we don t need to explain why Eddie is deserving of such an honor everyone who has ever heard his guitar playing knows. Eddie certainly would have received this award at some point in the future, as it seemed that he still had a lifetime of guitar greatness to give.
