KOCHI: Repercussions of the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan and the Taliban’s increasing influence there are being felt across the world, even in Kerala. Indian agencies, especially those involved in anti-narcotics operations, are on alert as they fear that the Taliban’s growth in Afghanistan would lead to a spurt in smuggling of drugs into India and Kerala in the coming months.Sources in the customs department, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said the recent spike in seizures of highly-processed drugs like heroin and cocaine across India, including in Kerala, is as an indicator of the Taliban growing influence in Afghanistan.
Committee Leads Collaborative Customs Training in India Published: April 7, 2021
The Anticounterfeiting Committee South Asia Subcommittee recently organized a three-part customs training session in India in collaboration with the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), a professional body under the aegis of India’s Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
The training sessions took place on March 3, 10, and 17, and were attended by nearly 45 customs officials from various ports in India. The sessions are aimed at strengthening cooperation between customs officials and brand owners in order to combat counterfeiting at the borders.
The sessions followed trainings INTA held in India at the end of 2019, involving Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Customs.

Officials from Andhra University celebrated 72nd Republic Day at AU grounds here on Tuesday. Vice- Chancellor P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy unfurled the national flag along with officials and paid floral tributes at the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Prasad Reddy recalled the struggle of freedom fighters for Independence and efforts of Dr. B.R Ambedkar for playing a key role in drafting the Constitution. Later the V-C gave away awards to NSS candidates and programme officers. A parade by NCC, NSS and AU security personnel stood as a major attraction.
