Paignton beach has been one of my lockdown staples and while I mustn’t cry, “Woe is me!” (at least I wasn’t sloping around a zombie city centre) I will say that Me is Quite Worried.
It’s seven miles from home in Totnes, a lot closer than the sultrier strands of Devon’s south coast between Start Point and Wembury. At low tide the dogs and their proud walkers spread out so you can almost imagine it’s quite beautiful, at least when the lowering sun silvers the damp sand and you let it dazzle you enough to make you squint. Poor visibility has always been a boon at British seaside resorts.
