PORTLAND, Ind. A Portland woman has agreed to enter a guilty plea stemming from her three-month-old son s drug-related death.
Under the terms of a plea bargain, 35-year-old Jennifer F. Young would plead guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony carrying up to 40 years in prison.
However, the deal places a 20-year cap on Young s sentence
Jay Circuit Court Judge Brian Hutchison took the deal under advisement and tentatively scheduled a May 17 hearing at which Young would plead guilty and be sentenced.
According to court documents, infant Hayden Markle died on March 6, 2020, at IU Health Jay Hospital. An autopsy determined the baby had died as a result of acute methamphetamine intoxication.
