Commercial Radio Australia reveals 2021 Brian White Scholarship finalists
Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has named the 10 finalists for this year’s Brian White Scholarship.
Now in its fifth year, the scholarship is awarded to one university student, providing them with the opportunity to gain experience in Australia’s biggest radio newsrooms.
Students are selected from a range of universities and educational institutions Australia-wide, with each finalist proceeding to a workshop with leading commercial radio news directors to develop their broadcasting and news presenting skills.
The lucky recipient of the scholarship will then go on to undertake an eight-week paid placement working for two weeks at Nine Radio, Southern Cross Austereo, Australian Radio Network and NOVA Entertainment.
Southern Cross Austereo has announced that its national charity initiative SCA Embrace has provided more than $110 million to The Smith Family and Beyond Blue since 2019.
The two-year charity program, which concluded its latest partnerships in June, sees SCA provide in-kind advertising support and facilitate charity-based activities and events among local teams.
Extended by six months due to the pandemic, SCA’s partnership with Beyond Blue and The Smith Family provided a total of $111,560,040 to both charities through the means of in-kind TV and radio promotions, activations and marketing support, as well as digital, social, creative and research support.
SCA team members also participated in the creation of content for Embrace initiatives such as Triple M’s ‘No Talk Day’, as well as volunteering at charitable events like the Smith Family’s Annual Toy and Book Appeal, holding work experience programs and participating in mental health sessions.

Candid: Breakfast radio is tough. It really messed with me because we had no ratings either, Sophie admitted on Mitch Churi and Mitchell Coombs Is It Just Me? podcast
In October 2014, Southern Cross Austereo dropped the show due to low ratings.
At the time, Sophie reportedly found the early starts challenging and said she was returning to her passion - acting.

Hughesy allegedly then went straight to Southern Cross Austereo s head of HR to complain, and Mooney was ordered to apologise.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Southern Cross Austereo for comment but is yet to receive a response.
Guest appearance: Their feud apparently began when Hughesy, who co-hosts 2Day FM s Morning Crew, invited Mooney s co-anchor Jess Eva (pictured) onto his own show but failed to promote Moonman in the Morning - despite both programs being part of the same network
Choice words: Mooney (right, with co-hosts Jess Eva and Chris Page) was reportedly furious over the snub and fired off a text message to Hughesy that contained offensive language
