CHICAGO A 1-year-old boy was in critical condition after being shot in the right temple while in a car involved in a road-rage shooting, according to Chicago police.
Witnesses called police just after 11 a.m. when they heard shots fired on South Lake Shore Drive downtown, police said. A woman was seen getting out of the car with a toddler, and she and the child were taken by an unknown person to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Lake Shore Drive around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Police claim witnesses observed a woman exit the vehicle with a child and a “good Samaritan” transported them to the hospital.
“We can confirm that this afternoon we received a nearly 2-year-old male child with a serious gunshot wound,” Dr.
Marcelo Malakooti, associate chief medical officer at
Lurie’s Children’s Hospital, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “The child sustained a bullet wound to his head and he is in very critical condition currently being treated in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He is requiring full critical care support. We are doing all we can do for this little boy and thank everyone for their concern.”

A 2-year-old boy was shot in the head during an apparent road-rage incident late Tuesday morning on Lake Shore Drive near Grant Park.
The boy was at Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
A dispute over one car not letting the another car into a lane of traffic about 11 a.m. on northbound Lake Shore Drive just south of Soldier Field apparently led to the shooting, Chicago Police Cmdr. Jake Alderden said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Both cars continued north and shooting began on Lake Shore Drive just west of the Shedd Aquarium. Bullet casings were recovered over a two-block stretch as the cars proceeded north, he said.

Police are investigating after a 3-year-old was wounded in a shooting on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago Tuesday. Witnesses told police they heard shots fired in the 300 block of South Lake Shore Drive around 11 a.m. Police said the boy was in a car that was driving northbound on Lake Shore Drive at the time of the shooting. Police said the boy was struck in his right temple.
