Now the Missoula Downtown Partnership says they re trying to keep up and make downtown parks even more accessible. That s why they re working on some renovation plans for Caras Park. David Wilson, who is visiting from out of state, says his family told him the park is the place to be. He said there ll be food and music, that s all we need.

A Carousel for Missoula remembers the late Chuck Kaparich Executive Director for A Carousel for Missoula, Theresa Cox remembered Chuck Kaparich. “It was absolutely all Chuck from the beginning,” said Cox. “Of course as time went on other people joined so it wasn t a one man process, but he s certainly the inspiration for the process and he was the one who kept us going and kept everything on the right track for all the time that the carousel was being built.” Cox said Kaparich was deeply involved from the start of the carousel project. “The project went public in August of 1991, and we opened of course on May 27th of 1995,” she said. “During all that time Chuck was intimately involved in every aspect of the carousel. He s the one who made sure that everything was done correctly, and that we just kept moving. A Carousel for Missoula rides through pandemic with donor support and last updated 2021-05-06 20:08:48-04 MISSOULA — Since the Missoula City Council first approved plans for a carousel in Missoula in 1991, Theresa Cox has been along for the ride. From opening day in 1995, to a global pandemic in 2020, Cox, the executive director of the carousel, has seen it all, but still admits that 2020 threw her for a loop. “I don t think anybody s ever experienced a year like 2020,” said Cox. Since its start, A Carousel for Missoula has only ever closed down for a couple weeks at a time usually in January to paint the horses, and a brief stint in August of 2019 for a broken cylinder.
