Four Arrows Receive All SEISC Recognition

When the Southeast Iowa Super Conference released its Girls Basketball All-Conference teams, four Wapello players were recognized. The lone first teamer in the North Division was senior Sammy Ewart. The 5’5’’ guard finished second in the league with 70 assists and her 9.1 points per game ranked second on the team. The senior shot 30% from the floor including 68% from the charity stripe. Lindsy Massner was named to the second team. The junior tallied 7.9 rebounds an outing to rank fourth in the league and her 9.2 points paced the Arrows. Toni Bohlen and Serah Shafer were recognized as honorable mention. Bohlen averaged 8.6 points and Shafer brought in 5.5 boards. 

Division Champs WMU Dominate SEISC All-Conference Selections

With a league title and an undefeated regular season on the resume, you know plenty of postseason accolades will follow and that was the case for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team with six players named to all conference teams.   The North Division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference had nine first team players and four of them were Wolves including Bradie Buffington, Farrah Nelson, Kyndal Townsley, and Jobey Malone. Sharing the rock was no problem for WMU with seven players recording at least five points a game, but no one averaged double figures. Buffington led the group with 8.6 points a night, hauled in 4.8 rebounds, and her 1.5 blocks a game ranked third in the division. Nelson brought in a team best 7.6 boards and chipped in with 8.5 points. Townsley averaged 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and dished out 2.4 assists a contest while Malone added 6.4 points and 4.6 boards. 

SEISC Meet in Letts Saturday

It’s conference Saturday for Iowa High School Wrestling teams and a few area squads will travel to Letts for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet.  Columbus Community, Highland, and WACO are area teams that will be competing for a conference title. The Wildcats are riding high after sweeping a quadrangular at L&M on Thursday. Lane Scorpil was the headliner winning both of his matches at 120 lbs by a pin in 15 seconds and 1:05. The junior has recorded a 35-1 record and should compete for a conference title. Chance Malone has been dominant at 285 lbs with a 30-3 mark. Highland also competed in Thursday’s quad and went 2-1 in duals with their only loss coming to the Wildcats. Easton Schlabaugh showed no mercy in his three matches winning by a 21-0 technical fall, 16-1 tech fall, and a 9-4 decision at 113 lbs. The sophomore is 30-4 on the campaign and Bryce Thompson is 24-3 at 120 lbs.

Van Buren Girls Pull Away from WACO in Second Half

In a battle of Warriors, it was the Van Buren girls’ basketball team that were the superior Warriors on Thursday night when they downed WACO 58-48 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference action. WACO got the offense going early and led 30-29 at the break. A 17-9 Van Buren third quarter turned the tide and WACO could never regain control. Isabel Manning hit 10 of 20 shots to finish with a game-high 27 points. Grace Coble led the blue and white with 16 points and Ellah Kissell added 11.  Van Buren improves to 12-3 and WACO drops to 5-10. Both the WACO boys and girls travel to West Burlington tonight.
