Residents across five states and territories have been told to rug up and brace for a series of cold fronts set to slam southern and southern Australia.
Severe weather warnings have been issued for NSW, the ACT, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, with damaging wind gusts likely to affect parts of these four states and territories today and tomorrow.
In addition to the wind, some areas will also see heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail and snow.

First Snowy power
“Power from the Snowy Mountains Scheme’s first major generating station will begin flowing into the NSW commercial electricity system today. The power will come from the first of four 80,000 kilowatt generators which will form the scheme’s giant T-l generating station 1200 feet underground on the Tumut River, near Cabramurra. A second generator will go into operation in a few days and the other two will begin early next spring.”
