The Trigg County School Board has given an official nod of approval to the 2021-22 school calendar favored by two-thirds of residents taking part in a related survey.
James Mangels, the districtâs director of student services and personnel, said 66% of respondents considering two calendar options for the 2021-22 year preferred the option that offered an earlier start date and a full week off for both fall and spring breaks.
Mangels received 730 responses, with 39% of the replies coming from parents and guardians, 30% from school staff, 23% from students and 7% from local residents who have no children in the school system.
School board members during their regular meeting on Thursday voted unanimously in favor of Option 1, which includes a start date for students of Aug. 11, 2021.

A man was injured when his vehicle slid off the road on Hopson Store Road in Trigg County Friday morning.
Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree says a vehicle was southbound around 8 am when the driver lost control due to icy conditions and slid off the road and hit a tree.
The driver was taken by ambulance to Trigg County Hospital for what deputies say are minor injuries.
Acree encourages everyone to use caution when traveling due to icy conditions. If all possible, stay indoors.
The crash is being investigated by Acree.
The Cadiz-Trigg County County community is remembering Mrs. Juanita Oates who passed away January 25 in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Oates taught school for 36 years. She began teaching in Georgia and taught for a number of years in Trigg County.
After her retirement from teaching, Mrs. Oates began a career of public service. She was the first African-American elected to Cadiz City Council. She served on the city council for 20-years. Mrs. Oates was well-respected by the mayors and council members she served with.
Mrs. Oates also served 18 1/2 years on the Trigg County Hospital Board. She also an active member of Second Baptist Church.
