We look through our green-tinged glasses at some Irish spirits and drinks, as well as some cocktails you can make at home to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Photo: Filepic
Since the International Irish Whiskey Day took place last week (March 3), and St Patrick’s Day is happening next week (March 17), I decided to take another look into the world of Irish spirits, beers and cocktails. The last time I wrote about Irish drinks was about nine years ago, so I reckon it’s time for a refresher.
When it comes to Irish drinks, the first name that comes to mind is usually Guinness, the iconic black beer that is available worldwide and even brewed locally in numerous countries, including Malaysia.

The decision by the US government to lift the tariff on single malt whiskeys is great news for Bushmills, according to North Antrim MP Ian Paisley.
In a move designed to ease trade tensions with the US, the Biden Administration announced the lifting of the tariff on some goods imported from the UK, including certain cheeses and matured whiskey. I am delighted. I ve been engaged for months about this, said Mr Paisley. I ve also lobbied the US administration about the significance of this for Bushmills and jobs in North Antrim.
He added: This is great news for the single malt distilleries in NI like Bushmills where the US has been such a key market over the years.

National Irish Coffee Day How to celebrate here in New Jersey
January 25 is National Irish Coffee Day. It should be a national holiday. I really enjoy Irish coffee, served mostly this time of year and right up through St. Patty’s Day; I like it to warm up and as a grand finish to a great meal, especially when the winter weather is at its peak.
My favorite is Jameson, coffee, whipped cream and topped with Crème de Menthe (the green stuff). Some people like Bushmills Irish Whiskey, some like Tullamore Dew or Powers Irish whiskey; it depends on your taste.
