The Ogun State Police Command said it arrested a 41-year-old lecturer in the Department of Business Management, Covenant University, Ota, Dr Stephen Ukenna, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old student of the institution.
The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Ota area command by the parents of the victim.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Oyeyemi said the parents reported that their daughter called them on the phone from school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office under the pretext that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.

1.The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday announced that from today (Tuesday), customers will pay N6.98 per transaction every time they use USSD services. This was made known in a statement jointly signed by CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi and Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ikechukwu Adinde.
2. The Kano State government, on Tuesday, confirmed three persons dead and 284 others infected in the outbreak of a strange disease. Commissioner for Health, Aminu Ibrahim-Tsanyawa, disclosed this to reporters at a press conference.
3. The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed through second reading a bill to empower the National Assembly to summon the president. The Constitution alteration bill also seeks to give the States Houses of Assembly powers to summon their respective governors.
