Photo: Collected Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Former lawmaker from Lakshmipur MA Awal and one of his hired goons Zahirul Islam Babu were sent to jail today after their bails in trader Shahinuddin murder case were rejected. Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order after investigator, Inspector Syed Iftekhar Hossain of Detective Branch of Police, produced Awal and Babu before the court on completion of their four-day remand in the case. In the forwarding report, the IO said Awal and Babu gave important information about the murder which was being verified.

After recording his statement, the magistrate sent him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj. Sumon in his statement told the magistrate that since 2004 Awal had a dispute over land with the victim. As the former lawmaker failed to grab the victim s land, he planned to kill him, he said. Awal made the blueprint to kill Shahinuddin, a businessman in the capital, at his Kalabagan office where accused Sumon and another person were present, an official of the court confirmed it. In line with the plan, the former lawmaker asked Sumon to hire 10-12 goons to execute his plan and Sumon hired the criminals accordingly. He had a meeting with them at Mirpur-12 on May 15.

The accused are Mohammad Titu (30), Iqbal Noor (21) and Mohammad Sharif (20). Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol passed the order after Syed Iftekhar Hossain, an inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer. In today s remand prayer, the IO said Titu is an FIR-named accused and he was involved with the incident while the names of Noor and Sharif were found in the investigation. So, they need to be remanded to know the whereabouts of others responsible, the IO added.

In their statements, the duo told the magistrate that they along with 10 others led by Sumon Bepari stabbed Shahinuddin indiscriminately with sharp weapons leaving him dead on the spot. As per direction of former lawmaker MA Awal, they killed the victim, they said in their confessional statements, an official of the court said. They were produced before the court on completion of their four-day remand in the case. On Friday, Awal, Zahirul Islam Babu and Nur Mohammad Hasan were placed on a four-day remand each in the same case.
