Multi Rescue Agency Response off Youghal as Sailing Dinghies Capsize, Five People Rescued 5th April 2021 The RNLI lifeboats tow the abandoned GP14 dinghy back to shore at Youghal Volunteer lifeboat crew with Youghal RNLI rescued five people from the water off Capel Island near Knockadoon in the Youghal Bay area this afternoon (Monday 5 April) when the two GP14 sailing dinghies they were in capsized leaving one adult and four teenagers in the water. The launch request for the lifeboat was made by the Irish Coast Guard and the lifeboat crew were joined in the rescue by Ballycotton RNLI, Youghal Coast Guard Unit, Rescue 117 and the Irish Lights Vessel, the Granuaile, along with local Gardaí and paramedics in a multi-agency response.

Dog rescued by RNLI after falling into Littlehampton harbour

Photo by RNLI/Beth Brooks A BELOVED pet dog was rescued by a lifeboat volunteers after it became stuck on a harbour ledge. The RNLI team was called to the Littlehampton harbour, near West Beach shortly after 6pm on Tuesday after being notified that attempts were being made by members of the public to rescue a dog stranded on a shingle bank. Belinda Wilkins, who witnessed the incident, said she saw the dog, named Pasha, “excitedly run from the car park and jump on the harbour wall” before it slipped and fell into the harbour.

New Lifeboat Operations Manager at Lough Derg RNLI

A new volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager has been appointed at Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat Station. Dr Christine O’Malley will now be responsible for managing all operational activities at the lifeboat station, as well as authorising the launch of the lifeboats. Christine has taken up the post following the retirement of Liam Maloney. Christine is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She worked as a Consultant Geriatrician at Nenagh Hospital from 1993 until she took early retirement in 2017.  Christine is a former President of the Irish Medical Organisation and has been a columnist with the Medical Independent since it was founded in 2010. She continues to write occasional columns on medical politics or living in the lakeshore village of Dromineer. For relaxation, Christine enjoys reading, attending to her garden, walking with her dog and recently she has returned to playing the piano.
