Jack McEvoy, currently serving the Township of Verona as Mayor, has announced his bid to seek re-election for a second term to the Verona Town Council.
Prior to serving on the Verona Town Council and as Mayor, Jack, a lifelong Verona resident, served as a Board member at the Hillwood Terrace Community, providing oversight for building management and maintenance and budgetary needs. Jack also regularly attended land use board meetings, council meetings, various community fund-raising events and environmental cleanups throughout the Township.
Jack sought a seat on the Council to address many issues in 2017 and has upheld his promises. An avid runner, he continually supports new stop sign installations, crosswalks and traffic pattern changes to provide for safer, more pedestrian-friendly streets. The Jersey City Council has unanimously introduced an ordinance establishing the rate of the levy for the new Arts and Culture Trust Fund.
If adopted on second and final reading, New Jersey’s first municipal Arts and Culture Trust Fund will generate $1 million annually in critical long-term funding for Jersey City’s burgeoning arts community.

Ward E Councilman James Solomon, the sponsor of the measure, was joined by Councilman-at-Large Rolando Lavarro in voting yes.
The remaining electeds in attendance, Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera, Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano, and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh all abstained, with Council President Joyce Watterman, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, and Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson absent.
“It is a big conversation. It is an extraordinarily important conversation as a state we simply have not had until the last year,” Solomon said prior to the vote.

The arts fund is being implemented following November’s referendum where 63.6 percent of voters chose to allocate funding to directly benefit local artists and arts organizations, including youth and community programming, to help them grow and thrive.
The city council will vote tonight to set both tax levy rates at one-quarter of a penny ($0.0025) per $100 dollars of total municipal assessed real property.
“Arts and open space are two key quality of life components, especially in urban areas like ours, that have been severely undervalued for far too long,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.
