Last year’s Firemen’s Fair, which was set to take place April 30 through May 3, was canceled due to the emerging coronavirus pandemic. The event serves as the 500-member fire department’s biggest fundraiser. It looks like we’re on a good trajectory here to get back to some sense of normalcy and we think that a family friendly event like this is probably welcome by everybody down here, Foret said. We started negotiating with all the players and fortunately they were able to get cooperation from the vendors. So now we’re locked and loaded for October.”
Thibodaux attorney Danny Cavell will continue to serve as grand marshal, Foret said.
Thibodaux native sworn in as chief justice of state Supreme Court
A Thibodaux native took the oath of office Thursday to become the new chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Justice John Weimer, 66, was sworn in as the 26th chief justice of the state Supreme Court Jan. 1. A ceremony marking his investiture was live-streamed from New Orleans Thursday on the official state Supreme Court website.
The previous chief justice, Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson, retired Dec. 31 after serving 26 years on the state’s highest bench.
After taking the oath of office, Weimer thanked his supporters and pledged to uphold the standards of law.
