Thibodaux native sworn in as chief justice of state Supreme Court
A Thibodaux native took the oath of office Thursday to become the new chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Justice John Weimer, 66, was sworn in as the 26th chief justice of the state Supreme Court Jan. 1. A ceremony marking his investiture was live-streamed from New Orleans Thursday on the official state Supreme Court website.
The previous chief justice, Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson, retired Dec. 31 after serving 26 years on the state’s highest bench.
After taking the oath of office, Weimer thanked his supporters and pledged to uphold the standards of law.
