Steve Backshall supports children s reading challenge

The Wild World Heroes challenge kicks off at county libraries from tomorrow. The competition, held in partnership with charity, the Reading Agency, invites children to borrow and read six library books during the summer. To take part in the challenge, children need to sign up at their nearest library, where they will be given a special collector’s folder to keep a record of their reading journey. Challenge ambassador Steve Backshall, known for presenting BBC’s Deadly 60 and The Really Wild Show, said: “The Reading Agency has teamed up with the World Wildlife Fund for Wild World Heroes, an exciting nature-themed reading challenge that will inspire children to take action for the environment.

Fruit and veg store Pickle & Lime still going strong a year after opening

Joe Devlin at Pickle & Lime “It has been very successful which has taken me by surprise a little bit. “But the lockdowns have definitely made people want fresh produce more. “We try to stay as local as possible when it comes to buying our fruit and veg. “Q Gardens farm shop at Harwell is another supplier - they have got big orchards - we go to them for apples, peas, soft fruit.” Helping Mr Devlin to run Pickle and Lime is Ian Palmer. “Ian has been here since day we opened a year ago and that has been very helpful,” he added.
