Shannon Sweeney for External Vice President for Local Affairs

The Daily Nexus endorses Shannon Sweeney, a third-year environmental studies and sociology major running with the Isla Vista Party, as the next External Vice President for Local Affairs.  If elected, Sweeney said she would prioritize students’ basic needs while working with the community to bring back Isla Vista open markets and showcase local talent. Bee Schaefer for Internal Vice President

The Daily Nexus endorses Bee Schaefer, a third-year biology major and current University-Owned Housing senator running with Isla Vista Party, as the next internal vice president. Schaefer, the current Internal Affairs Committee (IAC) chair, described her role in leading the committee as one of neutral leadership. It is imperative that the IVP holds a neutral position and is able to keep the Senate under control during heated discussions. The Nexus believes Schaefer is up to the task.

Esmeralda Quintero-Cubillan for External Vice President for Statewide Affairs

The Daily Nexus endorses Esmeralda Quintero-Cubillan, a fourth-year political science, sociology and environmental studies triple major running with Isla Vista Party, as the next External Vice President for Statewide Affairs.  Quintero-Cubillan’s overall experience and commitment to advocacy provides for the perfect background and the necessary skills to not just simply carry out the responsibilities of EVPSA, but to take the position to new heights. The H E A R Club s Cooking Event Emphasizes The Ease of Vegan Cooking

April 6, 2021 at 12:00 am by Stephanie Gerson Stephanie Gerson / Daily Nexus After the end of Veganuary, a month-long challenge in January encouraging non-vegans to eat a plant-based diet, the Health, Environment and Animal Rights club wanted to put together an event to inspire people to continue their plant-based eating habits past January. On Feb. 25, the Health, Environment and Animal Rights (H.E.A.R.) club hosted a virtual cooking event in partnership with the Environment Affairs Board (EAB). The lovely Chef Emma West of Satellite Santa Barbara guided Zoom attendees through a delicious vegan cooking demonstration. West loves sourcing ingredients from local farmers’ markets and using fresh ingredients whenever possible. While cooking, she highlighted amazing produce from the Santa Barbara area, including vibrant beets and beautiful carrots.
