Pensacola Beach will allow electric bikes this summer as a trial run

Pensacola Beach will allow electric bikes this summer as a trial run View Comments Electric bikes will be allowed to operate without restrictions on Pensacola Beach until at least October after the Santa Rosa Island Authority decided Wednesday to give the controversial vehicles a trial run through the 2021 peak season. The issue of e-bikes, specifically through rental company Pedego Electric Bikes, has been a frequent discussion point at the SRIA during the past year as the board determines how to govern their use in high-traffic areas where residents are concerned for safety. Electric bikes are the same as bicycles but they have a motor that can be turned on and operated at speeds up to about 30mph.

E-bikes in Pensacola Beach s busiest areas? SRIA mulling it over

View Comments The controversial issue of how to regulate electric bikes has again surfaced on Pensacola Beach as the only e-bike rental company on the island is asking for restrictions to be relaxed. Pedego Electric Bikes owner Daniel Sloan has been operating since last summer on the beach with restrictions that allow only 10 bikes to be rented at a time, mandate that bikes be physically picked up and returned to the store to avoid dumping and require users to use a helmet and complete a safety training to ride. Now, coming into the summer season and with the Pensacola Bay Bridge likely to reopen soon, Sloan wants the Santa Rosa Island Authority to relax some of those rules and allow the bikes anywhere on the island, rather than being restricted to outside of the core area as proposed.

Sex and Marriage

We hurriedly cleaned up the studio and tried to set a bit more of a romantic tone this week, a feat accomplished mostly by positioning small candles and trays of potpourri by the microphones. And why else than because our subject today is sex and marriage, and perhaps more of the former than the latter. So join us for a show about who wants it, who gets it, and exactly how far some researchers will go when doing work on the Chinese sex industry. Joining Kaiser Kuo and Jeremy Goldkorn on Sinica this week are Tricia Wang and Christina Larson. Tricia is an up-and-coming ethnographer whose focus is on the lives of China’s down-and-out population. Christina is a long-time guest returning to Sinica this week to talk about dating and sex in China, and who we try to convince to give us an advance peek at a forthcoming piece of hers in
