Pensacola Beach will allow electric bikes this summer as a trial run

Electric bikes will be allowed to operate without restrictions on Pensacola Beach until at least October after the Santa Rosa Island Authority decided Wednesday to give the controversial vehicles a trial run through the 2021 peak season.
The issue of e-bikes, specifically through rental company Pedego Electric Bikes, has been a frequent discussion point at the SRIA during the past year as the board determines how to govern their use in high-traffic areas where residents are concerned for safety.
Electric bikes are the same as bicycles but they have a motor that can be turned on and operated at speeds up to about 30mph.
