Maratha reservation: BJP s Chandrakant Patil says MVA govt was not sincere in its approach

Mumbai, May 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government never appeared sincere about providing reservation to the Maratha community. The government cannot silence Maratha communityâs anger over the Supreme Court judgement in the name of ongoing pandemic, state unit chief of BJP Chandrakant Patil has said.
While making the allegation, Patil said, the SC judgement has a specific mention on the instances of demands for fresh date for hearings by the state. Besides, the state was unable to provide English translation of the appendices even though it was demanded by the Supreme Court.

Mumbai: Amid the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic and the possible third wave, the Maharashtra Government on Friday issued a notification to extend the insurance cover/ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50 lakh given to its employees in case of death on account of pandemic during the course of Covid-related duties for the period of January 1 to June 30, 2121. The scheme, which was launched on May 29, 2020, was extended up to September 30, 2020 and later up to December 31, 2020. This is the third extension that has been granted in view of the present pandemic situation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and requested him to take up the issue of Maratha quota with President Ram Nath Kovind and the Union government.

Mumbai: The Supreme Courtâs order cancelling the reservation in education and government jobs for the Maratha community was unfortunate and the news had come at a time when the Maharashtra Government is engrossed in combating the coronavirus, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The apex court order was unwelcome, he said, adding that he was requesting the Centre with folded hands to step in, showing the same urgency as it had done in the case of Article 370 and some other matters.
