Maharashtra to provide Covid-19 vaccine to all citizens for free
Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country by Covid-19, will provide vaccines free of cost to its citizens in the 18-45 age group, minister Nawab Malik announced on Sunday. The state was already giving free vaccines to those abouve 45 years.

Maharashtra will provide the Covid-19 vaccine free of cost to people in the 18-45 age group, minister Nawab Malik said on Sunday. Nawab Malik said it is the state government s responsibility to implement the vaccination drive. Maharashtra, the worst-hit state by Covid-19, has been reporting over 60,000 daily cases for the past few days. Maharashtra has already been giving free vaccinations to all citizens above 45 years of age.

Mumbai: In a serious bid to combat the rising demand for oxygen, the Maharashtra Government on Monday directed the district administration to set up the plants in the hospital premises which will be done in next two to three weeks. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who on Monday reviewed the Covid-19 situation, implementation of financial package of Rs 5,476 crore, the status of health infrastructure and supply of medicines and oxygen, announced that the government will accord necessary approvals soon and tenders for the installation of oxygen plants will be issued thereafter.

Delhi and Maharashtra on Friday recorded their biggest single-day rise in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic in January 2020. The Capital registered 19,486 new cases, taking its tally to 8,03,623, while Maharashtra’s count rose to 37,03,584 lakh with 63,729 infections.
In Maharashtra, the toll from the disease climbed to 59,551 after 398 new deaths were reported in 24 hours. Also, 45,335 patients were discharged during the day, raising the number of recovered cases to 30,04,391. The number of active cases, on the other hand, increased to 6,38,034.

Contest between NCP candidate Bhagirath Bhalke, BJP’s Samadhan Autade today
The byelection in Pandharpur Assembly constituency in Solapur district on Saturday amid the COVID-19 surge in Maharashtra poses a tough test to the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
The seat became vacant following the death of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Bharat Bhalke owing to COVID-19 complications in November last year. Both the MVA and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed the upper hand in the electoral campaign, which concluded on Thursday. The result will be declared on May 2.
While the NCP has fielded Bhalke’s son Bhagirath, the BJP has given its ticket to Samadhan Autade, who contested the 2019 poll as an Independent and secured 54,124 votes. In 2019, the BJP’s Sudhakar Paricharak polled 76,426 votes, and Bhalke won 89,787 votes. According to the BJP, the combined votes secured by Paricharak and Mr. Autade last time are enough to ensure the party’s win this year.
