DARPA confirms role for Lockheed in LongShot Phase 1 - Unmanned Vehicles

US eyes an air-launched UAV capable of attacking targets from standoff range. Lockheed Martin has received a $7.83 million contract from DARPA for Phase 1 design work on the LongShot programme. This contract provides research, development and demonstration funds for the futuristic air-launched UAV that is envisaged to be capable of firing multiple air-to-air weapons from standoff range. Work will be completed by February 2022 at three US locations. Lockheed Martin is one of three US companies to receive LongShot Phase I contracts from DARPA, the others being General Atomics and Northrop Grumman. Ultimately, a full-scale air-launched demonstration system will be built that will be capable of controlled flight before, during, and after weapon ejection under operational conditions.

Lockheed Martin, Google in DARPA Team for Automatic Identification of Falsified Media

Lockheed Martin, Google in DARPA Team for Automatic Identification of Falsified Media Our Bureau 2297 DARPA on Monday announced four research teams selected for the Semantic Forensics ( SemaFor) program to develop technologies capable of automating the detection of falsified media assets. Four teams of researchers will focus on developing three specific types of algorithms: semantic detection, attribution, and characterization algorithms. These will help analysts understand the “what,” “who,” “why,” and “how” behind the manipulations as they filter and prioritize media for review, a U.S. Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) release said. The teams will be led by Kitware, Inc., Purdue University, SRI International, and the University of California, Berkeley. The semantic detection algorithms will seek to determine whether a media asset has been generated or manipulated. Attribution algorithms will aim to automate the analysis of whether media comes
