With an uncertain financial future highlighted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Mehlville Fire Protection District has a deficit budget for the first time in many years. The MFPD Board of Directors unanimously passed a $24.18 million budget for 2021 that has a $1.41 million deficit. “Not a lot went our way when developing this budget, so you’re going to see kind of a recurring theme and that’s that ‘Hey, that didn’t go our way,’” said Chief Financial Officer Brian Bond at the Dec. 23 board meeting. The fire district may have some tough financial challenges ahead, the CFO noted. “While many factors worked against the 2021 budget, the good news is that residents of the district are receiving an enhanced level of service. 2022 will be a reassessment year which will hopefully provide additional tax revenue,” Bond said. “But it’s important for us to note that future budgets will be faced with similar challenges. Carroll County Supervisors To Appoint New Chair, Boards And Commissions At Monday s Meeting | CBC Online

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors have a lengthy agenda for their first meeting of 2021 scheduled for Monday, Jan. 4. To begin the meeting, the supervisors will appoint a temporary chair person before selecting the permanent chair for the year. They will also approve more than two dozen resolutions and appointments concerning disposal of unnecessary records, the county’s official newspapers and their many boards, commissions and officers. The newly selected chair will also make committee assignments for the new year. As for regular business, the supervisors will continue their discussions on the Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) program for the ambulance department and review and consider a settlement agreement regarding potential litigation against the county. They will close the meeting with a review of the Fiscal Year 2022 Rolling Hills Mental Health and Disability Services Region budget, equipment quotes for secondary roads and reports from committees. The Carroll County Board of Supervisors are scheduled to convene Monday for their regularly scheduled weekly meeting. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget will be the main topic of discussion with the board slated to hear funding requests from the RSVP/Foster Grandparents program, the Carroll Area Development Corporation, Breda Day Care Center and Carroll County Elderbridge Agency on Aging. In addition to these funding requests, the supervisors will also consider approval of plats and payables and hear an update from County Engineer, Zac Andersen, on secondary roads. The board will close out the meeting with a discussion on participation in the Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) program for the Carroll County Ambulance Service, possible changes to COVID-19 protocols and manure management annual updates.
