Philadelphia’s gun violence crisis is leaving families and communities broken, grieving, and searching for solutions. With more than 200 homicide victims documented so far this year, the city is on track to exceed the 499 deaths recorded in 2020.
And with warmer months ahead, residents’ anxieties are being exacerbated. More and more, you hear individuals asking: Where is it safe to live and play in Philadelphia?

The 1985 state-sanctioned bombing of the MOVE compound in West Philadelphia is often regarded as one of the most egregious acts of police brutality recorded in American history.
More than 30 years later, the MOVE bombing remains a relevant topic of conversation, even more so as of late.
It was revealed in April that the University of Pennsylvania kept remains thought to belong to children killed in the police bombing for decades, unbeknownst to the family. The remains were also used for teaching purposes.

In less than a month, the School District of Philadelphia will attempt to reopen its school buildings for in-person learning to K-2 students. The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers has publicly objected to this plan and has stated they want teachers and school staff to be vaccinated before returning back-to-school.
