PUPILS at Swindon schools may have missed out of the chance of traditional work experience placements due to coronavirus restrictions but they will soon be able to get an insight into the world of work. Wiltshire College is working with Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub and Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership to create an online platform for schools across the county. The YourPlacement project allows students aged 14 to 16 to find out about a wide range of jobs. A number of businesses have already signed up to be part of the scheme. Wiltshire College & University Centre deputy principal curriculum and quality Iain Hatt said: “The college is delighted to be involved in the launch of the YourPlacement platform in Wiltshire.
STUDENTS students at Wiltshire College & University Centre have a new high-performance car to learn their trade on after taking delivery of a Honda Type R Civic. The college has a long-standing relationship with with the car manufacturer, which currently has its base in Swindon. Deputy head of engineering at the College David Campion sayss first-hand experience with a top-of-the-range high-performance vehicle will be an invaluable asset to students’ development. He said: “We are very grateful to receive this latest vehicle from Honda. They have been extremely supportive of the college and our students over a number of years. “Having vehicles such as this Type R Civic for students to utilise is hugely advantageous. It is a supreme performance machine and will help students put what they study into practice and enrich their learning enormously.”
