A LAW firm with offices in York and North Yorkshire is bidding farewell to its longest-serving employee after 52 years. Ian Fisher is retiring after a distinguished career with Ware & Kay, spanning more than half a century during which he assisted many generations of families. Ian joined the firm when it was known as Newbald Kay & Sons and had its York office in Lendal in July 1969 - just days before Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, David Bowie released Space Oddity and the halfpenny ceased to be legal tender.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status bid backed by two councillors

A BID to have the Yorkshire Wolds granted Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) status has received welcome backing from two councillors. Ryedale District Councillors Nathan Garbutt-Moore (Con) and Tracie Middleton (Ind) will put forward a motion to the next RDC meeting, which will be held on Thursday, April 15. Created by the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act of 1949, AONBs represent 18 per cent of the finest countryside in England and Wales and are designated because of their flora, fauna, historical and cultural associations as well as scenic views. Councillor Tracie Middleton, who represents the Wolds ward, said: “A large part of the Wolds sits in Ryedale and I have been privileged to reside and raise family there.
