Alternate evening water restrictions have been imposed in all Tararua towns.
This means hand-held outdoor water use is only permitted between 7pm and 9pm on alternate days, that is houses with even street numbers on even days and houses with odd street numbers on odd days.
The restriction excludes Akitio where a total outdoor ban is in place until April 7.

Water use has increased across the district by around 10 per cent since before Christmas, as expected during summer months, and river flows have steadily declined because of a lack of significant rainfall in some areas.

Tararua residents are being urged to conserve water, as a lack of rain puts them at risk of harsh water restrictions. Tararua District Council put alternate evening restrictions in place from Thursday, meaning people can only use handheld hoses or cans between 7pm and 9pm on alternate days. People with even street numbers can only water on even days, and odd numbers on odd days. Akitio, however, has a total outdoor ban until April 7 – a usual measure for the town.

The scene in the Rawhiti Masonic Lodge was magical with the main lights off and the 21 Christmas trees lit and even more amazing when the full lights came on to reveal the great creativity used to decorate them.
Not surprisingly each tree reflected the business and organisation which created them.
Mayor Tracey used flowers.
