Mayor Tracey Collis said the council was grateful for the Provincial Growth Fund money, because its small ratepayer base would have struggled to afford it. “Improving the safety and resilience of this vital transport route for our rural residents and visitors was of the utmost importance. “Only 18 months ago, after strong submissions from our community wanting Route 52 fixed, we were forced to find alternative funding when our bids to the New Zealand Transport Agency were declined.” The funding was announced in August, and the planning team have since been busy refining the project’s scope, developing plans and engaging with stakeholders and iwi partners.

Hawkes Bay Today By: Sue Emeny Dannevirke Community Board s Christmas tree extravaganza has lived up to its name with an amazing array of trees on display. The display, which was the idea of community board chairman Pat Walshe, has attracted 21 entries. It s being held in the Rawhiti Lodge hall on High St and is well worth a visit. The trees were put in place on Sunday and the display officially opened on Monday. Advertisement Walshe and deputy chairman Terry Hynes were at the hall on Monday for the opening and were impressed with the imaginative designs and the hours of work that had gone into decorating the individual trees.
