1Berkshire Youth Leadership Program Class of 2021 Commencement

  Having completed the entirety of this 10-month leadership program, 31 students shared the products of their collective impact projects with attending family, friends, and regional leaders, and were recognized for their program completion.      Though the class applied to the program prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, public health guidance precluded in-person meetings throughout the course of the year. As a result, from their kickoff retreat over the summer through their Commencement, the students have participated in the program virtually.    For their collective impact project, the class was organized into five groups and they chose to focus on the broad topics of racism and the environment. Each group of students addressed these topics in its own way. Students created social media accounts on the topic of racism in schools and in society more broadly, organized an anti-racism workshop to be held for their peers featuring an expert from Multicultural

Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans To Be Laid To Rest In Adams, Massachusetts CBS Boston 3 hrs ago Syndicated Local – CBS Boston ADAMS (CBS) – U.S. Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month, will be laid to rest Thursday afternoon in western Massachusetts where he grew up. Evans was raised in North Adams and Clarksburg and graduated from Drury High School and Western New England University in Springfield. Officer William Evans Laid to Rest in Adams

  Evans funeral Mass was held at noon at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and officiated by Bishop William D. Byrne of the Springfield Diocese. Byrne had previously been pastor at St. Peter s Church on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.   The funeral was private with family and friends, and a long list of public officials including Gov. Charlie Baker, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, U.S. Rep. Richie Neal, state Sen. Adam Hinds, state Reps. John Barrett III and William Smitty Pignatelli, North Adams Mayor Thomas Bernard and City Councilors Lisa Blackmer and Jason Laforest and Adams officials.   A contingent from the Capitol Police were also in attendance along with local, state, and regional law enforcement, including Adams Police Chief Scott Kelley, North Adams Police Chief Jason Wood, and Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn.
