Evans was killed Friday when Noah Green, 25, rammed his car into him and fellow Officer Ken Shaver before hitting a barricade on the north side of the Capitol grounds. Green was shot dead when he exited the car with a knife in his hand; Shaver was hospitalized overnight and released the next day. Evans family released a statement to the media on Tuesday afternoon describing him as the best father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ever hope for. His death has left a gaping void in our lives that will never be filled. They expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support they have received from the law enforcement community and asked that their privacy be respected.
A newly formed group calling itself Citizens Affirming All Lives Matter plans to gather Saturday to honor William âBillyâ Evans, the former North Adams man who died on duty as a police officer at the U.S. Capitol last week.

WASHINGTON, DC William Billy Evans, the U.S. Capitol police officer who died Friday after a lone assailant rammed his car into him and another officer at a barricade near the national landmark, was a western Massachusetts native, according to reports.
Evans, who became the second line-of-duty death this year for a department still struggling to heal from the Jan. 6 insurrection, grew up in North Adams in Berkshire County. He was a graduate of Drury High School.
The police officer killed at the U.S. Capitol on Friday was from Berkshire County. NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report William "Billy" Evans, 41, was born in North Adams and later moved to Clarksburg.
