Historic Kildonan Church, centrepiece of some of the worst memories of last century s Sutherland Clearances, is to revert to estate owner Mr Edward Reeves of Suisgill, exercising his right of pre-emption as proprietor from the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. The redundant church, which has not been used for several years, had attracted the interest of Helmsdale Heritage Society. Their council wished to preserve it for posterity along with the graveyard which contains the remains of the parish minister, father of the Clearances historian the Rev Donald Sage. Heritage Society chairman Mrs Mary Dudgeon confessed they were disappointed on learning the news of the acquisition.

Lockdown has given a former bookseller and lover of literature the opportunity to become a published author in in his own right.
Jonathan Creed of Golspie used the enforced spare time to write his first novel, A Sutherland Murder, a crime thriller set in the county as well as Oxford where he spent his later childhood.

The novel, which took 10 weeks to write, features a couple Bill and Jane, who get caught up in the investigation of a suspicious death while staying at an East Sutherland hotel.

Dornoch’s plans to turn a derelict brownfield site into a car park are powering ahead with the £400,000 project now out to public tender.
The former abattoir site at Dornoch South is to have 38 car spaces, four dedicated motorhome spaces, five flexible coach/motorhome spaces, eight motorcycle spaces and 10 bicycle stances.
