He and associates have taken lease of the old, long-abandoned Buckeye Mine situated about 12 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.   1911 May 17, 1911-The state land sale conducted from the courthouse steps was one of the best that has ever been conducted in the county, and the average price per acre paid was the highest ever received at a sale of Minnesota state lands. A total of 3,000 acres were disposed of for an average price of $12 per acre.

In search of treasures in Itasca County

On the warmest day of the year, bright and sunny with temperatures around 80 degrees, the annual Treasures Are Fine garage sales were held in northeastern Itasca County this past Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Last year, the event was not held due to the concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic. There were 60 miles of garage sales that went through the communities of Bowstring, Talmoon, Spring Lake, Wirt, Dora Lake, Alvwood, Squaw Lake, and Sand Lake. There were 38 registered Treasures Are Fine garage sales locations along with refreshments along the route. Marcus and Rachel Barto, owners of Barney’s Resort and Lodging located on County Road 4 on Sand Lake, commented that they had a very busy day, this was echoed by many sales locations along the route.

William Bill Reed, Jr 1940 - 2021 | Obituaries

William “Bill” Reed Jr., age 80, of Warba, MN, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home with his wife by his side. Bill was born in 1940 to William Sr. and Vera (Nolette) Reed. He attended school in Deer River before going to Itasca Junior College and the University of Minnesota where he got his Chemical Engineering degree. Bill served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves from May 1963 to May 1969. On June 9, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Judith Byers, and the couple had six children. Bill worked at Potlatch in Cloquet, MN until the fall of 1976 when he began working at Blandin Paper Co. After his wife, Judith, passed away in 2008, Bill married Barbara (Lee) Dorry on May 22, 2010 and the two shared the next ten years of their lives together. Bill and Barb were members of Grand Rapids Assembly of God and Bill was considered to be a Mighty Prayer Warrior, always praying for and thinking of his family.
