The sport s profile was elevated by Ice Cube s Big 3 tournament back in 2017, which featured a bevy of ex-NBA stars.
With obvious roots in pick-up basketball, 3x3 ball is played on a half-court and
the winner is the first team to 21 or the team leading after 10 minutes.
The scoring system is also similar to casual basketball, with the traditional three-point line serving as a two-point line and every bucket scored from inside the line worth just one point.
When is it? 3x3 basketball will be the first of all the brand new sports to show out at this year s Olympics, with the pool rounds starting on Saturday, July 24. The medal games are on Wednesday, July 28.

Scientists are taking a second look at the role that wetlands play in climate change. Coastal wetlands absorb a lot of carbon, which is good, but new research in Delaware finds they also release a lot of carbon. They might release even more with a warming climate. Sophia Schmidt of Delaware Public Media has this encore presentation.

Subscriber only Some of the state s best climbers were looking to get a fingerhold on a Tokyo Olympics berth as they battled it out on the Sunshine Coast. The Queensland State Bouldering Titles were held at new climbing gym Flow Bouldering over the weekend. The sport is set to be debuted at this year s Tokyo Games, less than 80 days away, which meant the stakes were raised over the weekend. The event came to a close on Sunday with Australian Olympic qualifying athlete Tom O Halloran taking out the Open A s competition and local Matt Fingleton winning the Masters division.
