A 31-hour SWAT standoff in Newark ended Friday afternoon when police returned fire on the 42-year-old suspect, police announced.
Detectives from the Essex County Narcotics Task Force were executing a warrant at a Clinton Place home around 6 a.m. Thursday when someone in the house fired shots at officers, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, Sheriff Armando Fontoura and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said.
Officers took cover, evacuated residents in the other apartments at 34 Clinton Pl., and evacuated the homes in the two adjacent homes. As a result, eight people were relocated.

MUHLENBERG CO., Ky. (WFIE) - A Muhlenberg County man is in jail Thursday morning facing drug-related charges.
Officials with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force and the Muhlenberg County Sheriff Department executed a search at a home in the 200 block of Beech Creek Road on Wednesday.
They say during the search, officers found around 28 grams of meth, over $1,800 and drug paraphernalia.
Authorities charged 37-year-old Toby Taylor with trafficking in meth over two grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- The firearm industry is leveraging unique partnerships to help firearm retailers become part of the safety solutions in their communities.
Through
Real Solutions the firearm industry trade association partners with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), for a campaign called
Operation Secure Store (OSS). The goal is to deter and reduce the instances of theft and burglary of firearms from retailers. These partnerships have had a positive impact on reducing the criminal misuse of firearms. After all, local firearm retailers live and work in the same communities and want those neighborhoods to be free of crime too.
