Until the German occupation of his native Denmark in April 1940 Anders Lassen had no interest in the War. Yet over the next five years he became a highly decorated Special Forces legend and the only non-Commonwealth recipient of the Victoria Cross.
After taking part in a mutiny on board a Danish ship, he made his way to Scotland. He first joined the Special Operations Executive before serving with the Small Scale Raiding Force, Special Air Service and Special Boat Service. He took part in the daring Operation Postmaster, off West Africa, and raided the Channel Islands and the Normandy coast. He saw most action in Eastern Mediterranean, fighting in Crete, the Dodecanese, Yugoslavia, mainland Greece and finally Italy.
Team HARD endures rollercoaster debut with new CUPRA
2 weeks ago
Team boss Tony Gilham admitted it had been a “rollercoaster weekend” for Team HARD as it introduced the new CUPRA Leon into the BTCC for the first time.
Four of the new cars would appear on track for the season opener at Thruxton but a tough start to proceedings saw Glynn Geddie go off in FP1, with his car then missing the second practice as it underwent repairs prior to qualifying.
Race day would provide the team with five points finishes – including a best of eighth for Jack Goff in the mixed weather third race – but Geddie’s car would be left with extensive damage after being caught up in the incident in race two with Andy Neate and Jade Edwards.
Thruxton thriller set to kickstart new BTCC campaign

The new British Touring Car Championship season kicks off this weekend at Thruxton, with a full grid of 29 cars ready to do battle on the quickest circuit on the calendar.
Although no fans will be in attendance – hopefully the final time that will be the case – there is set to be plenty of action for those watching live on ITV4 to enjoy after a busy winter that saw a raft of chances across the grid.
That is most notably true amongst the manufacturer-backed teams after the departure of Honda from the series, leaving Team Dynamics to run as an Independent outfit for the first time in more than a decade.
Nic Hamilton sets focus on regular points

Nicolas Hamilton says he hopes that he can become a regular contender for points finishes this season when Team HARD introduces the new CUPRA Leon into the BTCC.
Hamilton remains with the team for a second season having opening his points account in 2020 thanks to a top 15 finish at Brands Hatch – a rare highlight in what was a tough campaign with the Volkswagen CC.
The decision to switch to the CUPRA has been made in the hope that Tony Gilham’s team will be able to move forwards up the grid during the year ahead, with Hamilton hoping that the new car will allow him to enjoy his best season in the series to date.

Docker finished sixth in the standings last season with a best finish of fourth at Silverstone, and will line-up on the grid once again in his Maximum Motorsport-prepared Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.
Silverstone will host the opening round of the season later this month.
“I really enjoyed my outings in the TCR UK Championship in 2020,” he said. “From what I’ve heard and with all the changes taking place, it’s going to be an even better year for TCR in the UK in 2021.
