DeKalb LEADS accepting applications

United Way serves community needs during pandemic

AUBURN — When Tyler Cleverly took over as executive director of the United Way of DeKalb County one year ago, he had one goal in mind — to do everything in the agency’s ability to take care of the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. “2020 truly showed how DeKalb County came together to live out our motto to Live United,” he said Monday. “United Way of DeKalb County could not serve our county if it were not for volunteers and donors like you,” he added. Even though events had to make a shift, the United Way’s impact remained the same, he said.

United Way sets Day of Caring, Power of the Purse dates

AUBURN — The United Way of DeKalb County will hold its annual Day of Caring and Power of the Purse events in the coming months, according to Executive Director Tyler Cleverly. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the annual Day of Caring for United Way of DeKalb County. The 25th Day of Caring will take place on Friday, June 25, according to Cleverly. The event enables the community to work together by bridging the gap between volunteers and homeowners and agencies in need, allowing them to continue creating a thriving and vibrant community for all. Volunteer applications, sponsorships, and project applications will be available beginning March 1 and will be due to the United Way office by May 7.

COVID-19 Task Force awards $15,000 grant

AUBURN — For more than two months, the United Way of DeKalb County and other local nonprofit groups have been discussing a way to recognize local medical professionals for the dedication they have shown in protecting the community during this pandemic. The United Way COVID-19 Task Force awarded a $15,000 COVID-19 Phase II Grant to the Parkview DeKalb Foundation for co-worker support programs. Throughout the pandemic, the Parkview DeKalb Hospital team has gone above and beyond to care for the community, at times creating a physical and mental strain, the United Way said. A portion of the moneys was used to create what became known as “Jolly Trolley” carts, which are stocked with gifts and snacks and wheeled around the hospital to share with co-workers.
