For those with old trucks, the policy’s appeal is limited due to poor cost economics
Owners of old trucks might not find it financially viable to scrap their old vehicle and invest in a new one, as per the Centre’s vehicle scrappage proposition, said Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles.
“At the outset, most incentives being offered are recommendatory in nature. For example, the benefits offered include road tax rebate up to 15 per cent but it is important to note that most State governments who rely on taxes may not be in a position to offer such benefits. Furthermore, it is unlikely for the cost of raw materials to immediately reduce after the scrappage policy has been introduced, it will take time for that effect to be realised. However, it is a great start for the positive effects of circular economy to be realised over a period,” Arya told
