Dominion Energy pulls plug on second new office tower downtown

Dominion Energy won’t be adding another tower to the downtown skyline after all. Blame the pandemic and Warren Buffet.
The Richmond-based utility giant confirmed on Friday it has for the foreseeable future decided to scrap its plans for 700 Canal Place, an office building it has had on the drawing board for several years for the site of its former One James River Plaza building.
Planned for 17 stories with 900,000 square feet, 700 Canal Place would have been a slightly smaller twin to Dominion’s 600 Canal Place, which was completed in 2019.

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Dozens of people lined up on both sides of Forest Hill Avenue on Tuesday afternoon to protest Ballyâs proposed 61-acre casino resort near Powhite Parkway and Chippenham Parkway.
Protestors stood outside for more than two hours holding signs and rallying for honks in support of their opposition to the project.
Jeanne Walls has been living in Stratford Hills for 40 years and was protesting alongside residents who donât want the casino to come to their neighborhood.

With its car vending machine tower coming into view in Richmond, national retailer Carvana is reviving its plan for a regional distribution facility it had previously put in its rearview mirror.
The online used-car seller is moving forward with its planned vehicle inspection and processing center in Chester, a $25 million project that it pulled last spring after securing state and local incentives and approvals in 2019.
An announcement Tuesday from Chesterfield County Economic Development said the company conducted another national site search and ended up selecting the same location for the 191,000-square-foot facility, which will be built on a 183-acre tract at 13504-15100 Woods Edge Road, along the east side of Interstate 95 just north of Ruffin Mil

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Three casino proposals are up for consideration in Richmond as the community meets virtually this week to hear about their proposed plans.
Ballyâs Richmond Casino Resort is addressing concerns about the traffic impacts of their site near the Forest Hill area.
Andrew Gould, a consultant from Timmons Group that is working with Ballyâs Corporation on their proposed site, says theyâre listening to the feedback and coming up with a plan to address concerns.
