Mayor proposes $770M budget for FY22
Mayor Levar Stoney presented his administration’s proposed FY22 budget to the Richmond City Council on Friday. The $770.3 million budget is balanced despite municipal revenues projected to be nearly $18.5 million less than revenues in last fiscal year’s proposal.
The proposed budget contains no increases in real estate, personal property or other general taxes. It does include a proposed utility rate increase of $5.27 a month for the average customer. The increase would fund more than $3 million in infrastructure improvements to address flooding in Southside and other parts of the city.

Commissioners unanimously approved developer DR Horton s request to rezone a 163-acre parcel of currently vacant land in southern Gaston County that would allow a new subdivision. The board s action followed approval of the plan by the Gaston County Planning Board on Jan. 11.
In total, DR Horton s plan will encompass a total of approximately 231 acres and create 315-homes with lot sizes of 8,000-square-feet. The plan will also require the company to foot the bill to connect the subdivision to Two Rivers Utilities water and sewer system, which will be extended to the site from a location along U.S. 321.
