Mansfield University President Charles Patterson will take on a second role in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education this summer by serving as interim president at Shippensburg University.
Patterson is being tapped to fill the presidency being vacated by Laurie Carter, who has served in that position for nearly four years. She is leaving to become president of Lawrence University in Wisconsin, effective July 1.
Rutgers University recently announced that, with a few exceptions, it will require students attending classes for the 2021-22 school year to have a COVID-19 vaccination.
The university cited the availability of multiple vaccines, the proven safety and effectiveness of those vaccines, and the âshared responsibilityâ of each member of the university community for the health and safety of the community in its decision.
Since the Rutgers announcement, a growing number of schools have followed suit, saying that vaccinations will be mandatory for students before returning to campus in the fall.
Local colleges and universities, too, are considering whether or not to enforce a vaccination mandate.
