The loot has been found.
The Asphalt Cowboys announced that somebody located the loot that was swiped during Tuesday’s mock robbery part of the festivities for Redding Rodeo week.
“The loot was found Tuesday night at the yellow traffic barricade that is chained to the light pole in front of the of Asphalt Cowboys’ clubhouse” at the Redding Rodeo grounds, Asphalt Cowboy Dave Tappan said.
Because the loot was found Tuesday, the cash reward is $1,000, Tappan said.
The winner will pick up the money at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the clubhouse, Tappan said.
While the loot was found the Lone stranger and Sidekick are still on the loose.
The Lone Stranger and Sidekick are on the move again in Shasta County.
The Asphalt Cowboys annual mock robbery and the city-wide search for their loot kicked off Tuesday. The comedy game is a Redding Rodeo week tradition.
Rewards are as much as $1,000 for each of the two contests, Asphalt Cowboy Dave Tappan said.
Two local celebrities dressed as the desperate desperados moseyed into the Post Office Saloon in downtown Redding on Tuesday morning and made off with the loot.
As usual, members of the North State philanthropic organization, the Asphalt Cowboys, were in hot pursuit.
North State residents can win cash by solving daily clues and guessing the identity of the Lone Stranger and Sidekick, and by finding the loot.
The Asphalt Cowboys are excited about bringing back some, but not all, of their time-honored Rodeo Week events.
The Cowboys famous pancake breakfast will be back May 14 after rodeo festivities were canceled last year due to the pandemic. The $5 breakfast has a new location: the parking lot at the Redding Civic Auditorium, where table, chairs and the griddles will be set up.
The Lone Stranger and Sidekick will once again stage a mock bank holdup with reward money going to the people who find the loot and identify the masked robbers.
The Quick Draw Shootout is back. That s always a popular thing, Asphalt Cowboys spokesman Dave Tappan said.

But even with all the changes, people like Miranda Wilson are excited. Wilson says her Dad is a member of the Asphalt Cowboys. She is glad to have this event and the Redding Rodeo make its comeback this year. Wilson tells Action News Now events like this help bring the community together.
