The following information comes from the Mattoon Police Department:   Mattoon Police arrested James R. Terrell, 69 years of age of Mattoon, for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrest occurred on 1/12/2021 at 4:01pm in the 1200 block of Dewitt Ave in Mattoon.  The charges allege that on 1/12/2021, police were called to a suspicious male inside D-Co Laundry located at 12th and Dewitt using illegal drugs.  Police arrived and identified the suspicious male as Mr. Terrell, who was in possession of crack cocaine.  Mr. Terrell was arrested and taken to the Coles County Jail. Mattoon Police arrested Robert E. Gray Jr., 38 years of age of Mattoon, for the offense of Possession of Methamphetamine.

Five new businesses are coming to the Jackson Crossing Mall. The former Sears will be converted into five new storefronts, said Patrick Vassar Director of Underwriting for Ignite Funding. Ignite Funding is based in Las Vegas and has developments in 28 states, Vassar said. They chose Jackson because there was a lot of potential for the site.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Dollar General, 811 E. McDevitt Ave., at 10:11 p.m., Dec. 23, police said. A man shoved the clerk and took money from a cash register, before fleeing, police said. No one was injured.
