At State House Square, one of downtown Hartford’s major Class A office properties, David Jakubowski keeps a close eye on parking garage traffic reports, eager to see concrete signs of greater employee activity as COVID-19 vaccination rates rise.
However, Jakubowski, who manages the three-building property on behalf of its owners, has observed only a slight increase over the past few months. Inside, there’s still just a sliver of normal employee activity levels.
“We were hoping at this point we might have 25% of the normal population back to work,” Jakubowski said. “I see a few more people I haven’t seen in the last year, maybe one or two days a week.”

The largest act of Jewish military resistance during World War II was remembered by world Jewish groups as well as diplomats from Israel and Poland on Monday, 78 years after the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
“Today marks the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, when ordinary people rose up against Nazi barbarism in the largest civil rebellion during WWII,” the American Jewish Committee (AJC) tweeted. “Their bravery lives on in our memories.”
IT giant HCL Technologies officially makes downtown Hartford home
HARTFORD, Connecticut (HBJ) Though the region’s office market has mostly been in a holding pattern since COVID-19 hit Connecticut more than 10 months ago, there have been some bright spots.
One of the largest and most recent examples is a new downtown lease signed by IT outsourcing giant HCL Technologies, which this month followed through on its Feb. 2020 pre-pandemic promise that it would plant its flag downtown in order to serve its client Stanley Black & Decker.
HCL recently signed a lease for nearly 16,700 square feet of Class A office space at 10 State House Square, the Hartford Business Journal has learned.

The multistate antitrust lawsuit against Google that dropped on Wednesday evening is so squarely focused on ad tech that the term “header bidding” shows up more than 110 times.
The suit details alleged anticompetitive sins related to the way in which Google runs its multibillion-dollar online advertising business, including the claim that Google colluded with Facebook to rig the digital ad market and shut out rival exchanges.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who led the investigation, summed up the case in a video posted to the Texas AG’s Twitter account, accusing Google of using its monopolistic power to control ad pricing and engage in market collusion to manipulate auctions.
