Charities receive £6,000 to fund vital support services

Weardale Foodbank volunteers TWO WORTHY causes have been given £3,000 each thanks to an award scheme to support crucial services and support. Lakes and Dales Co-operative’s Community Connect award scheme has given the funds to Blyth Man Shed, in Northumberland, and Weardale Foodbank, based in Bishop Auckland. Blyth Man Shed, which was established with the purpose of providing a workshop environment where like-minded men can create, build and socialise together, secured the funding after being shortlisted by the convenience retailer as one of three good causes across the North of England to receive financial support from a total pot of £9,000.

Lakes & Dales Co-op has selected Jigsaw Childrenâs Hospice as one of its charities of the year 18/12/2020 Staff at Lakes & Dales Co-op stores aim to raise Â£200,000 for two children’s hospices in 2021. The supermarket, which has branches in Keswick, Lazonby and Shap, has named Jigsaw, Cumbriaâs Childrenâs Hospice in Carlisle, and St Oswaldâs Childrenâs Hospice in Newcastle as its charity partners. Staff are already planning in-store, virtual and sporting challenges to support the charities. John Brodie, the chief executive of the Lakes and Dales Co-op parent company Scotmid Co-op, said: âThere are a lot of plans already in the pipeline, and despite the challenging times we all find ourselves in, we look forward to talking to members, customers and staff about how they can help us to raise as much money as possible for childrenâs hospices.”
