Northern Light updates council on vaccine rolloutÂ
ELLSWORTH â Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Centerâs director of clinical education, Dr. Jim Jarvis, presented COVID-19 vaccine information to the City Council on Dec. 21. He was joined by Senior Physician Executive at Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital Dr. Mike Murnik and Director of Communications Kelley Columber.
The information session followed Councilor Robert Millerâs COVID-19 Education slideshow he said would be made available on the city of Ellsworthâs website. Miller has been a pharmacist for 25 years and a disaster pharmacist since 2002.
The Northern Light team attended the meeting virtually to âlet the community know what to expectâ with vaccine distribution, potential allergic reactions and other questions arising out of the emergence of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
Moshier tapped for city manager
ELLSWORTH The City Council has turned to Police Chief and interim City Manager Glenn Moshier to fill the role of city manager on a permanent basis.
Moshier was named interim manager after former City Manager David Cole retired last September. Moshier joined the Ellsworth Police Department in 2004, was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and then to captain in 2016. He has been named the department’s Officer of the Year on three occasions. In early 2017, he was named police chief after serving on an interim basis since the previous December.
Council Chairman Dale Hamilton pointed to Moshier’s proven leadership skills along with leadership training undergone with the FBI while with the Police Department as reasons for starting negotiations.

Back to the drawing board in city manager search
ELLSWORTH The City Council has reopened a search to fill the vacant city manager position after its leading candidate withdrew from negotiations.
“It had nothing to do with the actual negotiations. We were getting pretty close on terms,” Council Chairman Dale Hamilton said on Dec. 14. “[The candidate] ultimately felt it wasn’t the right opportunity at this time.”
While the council had narrowed the initial 18 applicants down to five and interviewed three after two withdrew their applications, it decided not to circle back to either of the remaining candidates. Consultant Don Gerrish of Eaton Peabody will continue to facilitate the search process. Hamilton noted that with several manager vacancies across the state the position is proving somewhat difficult to fill.
(Ellsworth) â The finalist for the city managerâs post in Ellsworth has withdrawn from consideration and now city councilors will search again for a new manager. City Council chair Dale Hamilton reports to Star 97.7 that their possible choice for the job told the city council it did not feel like it was the right opportunity. Only 20-people applied for the job when it opened up last September following manager David Coleâs retirement. Hamilton says the search will start over in January.
